Acts 2:14–36

A WITNESSING CHURCH

Acts 2:14-36. A WITNESSING CHURCH “This Jesus has God raised up, whereof we are all witnesses.” v.32 The Lord Jesus Christ has preeminence in all things, and when there is real life in a person or an assembly of God’s people, the Holy Spirit glorifies the Lord Jesus Christ. The power of the Holy Spirit unifies the Lord’s people. His testimony to the people was… To the marked change of the believers, v.15 Their behavior was changed Their words were changed Their actions were changed Natural man does not receive nor understand the things of the Spirit. [1Cor.2:14] To the fulfillment of prophecy, v.16-21 In the last days, the Holy Spirit came 24 generations had passed since Joel made his prophecy The work of the Holy Spirit in prophecy isn’t finished yet To God’s approval of Jesus of Nazareth, v.22 His Person: “My Beloved Son…” His work: miracles, signs, wonders His Deity: He is One with the Father. He was approved by God but not by men. To the guilt of rejecting Christ, v.23 Wicked people who were there listening to Peter were involved in crucifying Christ The Holy Spirit, through His servant, convinced and convicted them of murder Their sin was lawlessness, rebellion, self-exaltation, and rejection of Christ To the power of the resurrection of Christ, v.24 Death could not hold Him. He holds the keys to life and death He rose from among the dead by the power of God, the Holy Spirit, and His own authority He could not be held by the power of death and hell It is not possible for them to hold believers who have put their faith in Christ. [Jn.5:24-25] Peter and others there were witnesses to the resurrected Christ. They had seen and heard Him and been with Him for forty days. To the inspiration of David regarding Christ, v.25, 30 David foresaw the Lord [Ps.16:8] who would be raised to sit on His throne To reject the testimony of David in the Psalms was to reject the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit moved holy men of old to write the scriptures To the exaltation of Christ, v.33-36 God exalted Him by His right hand God made Him Lord of each person. He is the Christ who is the anointed One to rule the nations. God has given Him all authority Evidence of that authority is in the signs and wonders the new birth brings.
