Colossians 3:17

His Consecration

His Consecration. Colossians 3:17. There is no honor to oneself when it comes to the things of the Lord. Everything we do in life is done in deed or word and is to be done in His name and under His authority. When I apply myself to a work God gives me, it is my responsibility to do it with my might as to the Lord and to never hold back from doing what is necessary to the very best of my ability so that God will be glorified. I must keep at it until that particular work and effort have been completed; that is what is involved in living a life of consecration.

Consecration isn't limited to just efforts or deeds that appeal to me or that I think I excel at; there are many different needs among people that I may be called to meet. Words of comfort are needed by those who are sorrowful, and words of reassurance are needed for those going through difficult times when they don't know what to do or where to turn. We may be called to offer words of correction when some of God's people stray from what they have been taught and know is right.

"Word and deed" will encompass every aspect of our outward life. When we intentionally live before the Lord each day, we can most effectively honor, serve, obey, and represent Him. Things done in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ— the name of Christ—testify that we belong to Him and are identified with Him. We are under His authority; we are not "free lances" with the right to act on our own authority. Praise naturally results from this and unites God's people through shared thoughts and hearts that bear witness to the truth we experience. Saintly activity connects us with one another, especially for those who do not know or love our Lord Jesus Christ.
