Exodus 29:35–46

The Consecration of the Tabernacle

The Consecration of the Tabernacle. Exodus 29:35-46. Aaron and his sons were to stay at the Tabernacle for seven days and nights, offering a daily bull to purify and consecrate the altar and everything that touched it. A yearling lamb was offered first thing in the morning and again at night. Fine flour, olive oil, and wine—which testify to the perfections of our Lord Jesus Christ, His humanity, and His joy—teach us that our communion with God is possible because of the perfection of the Son of God.

The fact that they were to stay there for the entire week teaches us that our whole life on earth is to be a life of service as a spiritual priesthood. Our life should be spent abiding in the presence of God at all times in the blessed service and worship of our Lord. “He that abides in Me and I in Him, the same brings forth much fruit.”

The meeting place, the Tabernacle, was consecrated by God's glory. People could only approach the gate, and only priests were allowed to enter. Now, we are privileged to go all the way to the mercy seat through the finished work of Christ. All the rightful claims God had against us have been fully satisfied. The barrier of the veil has been torn in two—from the holy presence of God down to where we stand. Now, God chooses to dwell among His people. "Ye are the temple of God." "Your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost." "The temple of God is holy."
