Philippians 2:10

Bent Knees

Bent Knees. Philippians 2:10. “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things on earth, and things under the earth;” The name Jesus was first given to God’s only begotten Son on earth and is now used in heaven. Angels' knees, which long ago bent to Him and proclaimed, “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty,” now bend at His name, the one given to Him as a man. One of their own came to earth to tell Joseph that His name would be called “Jesus” before He was born. That messenger returned to heaven, and the entire heavenly host waited to see what would happen at His birth.

They were sent to share the news of His birth with shepherds and to praise Him by saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth, peace, goodwill toward men." The shepherds found Him and bowed their knees to Jesus and His name. They rejoiced and praised, confessing that Jesus had come. When wise men arrived later, they did the same. Simeon, Anna, and others who had waited for Him all rejoiced to honor Him, speaking of Him, whose name is Jesus, to everyone.

Down through the generations of mankind, there have always been believers who, even though few in number, still call Him our Lord Jesus. They recognize that only a small number acknowledge His authority, but despite what the world might say, they choose to stay with His minority and call Jesus their Lord. Angels, men, and even demons know the power of His name. He is no usurper; He has authority over every claim to fame that people’s names are given. Those who are false Christians will realize that they will be exposed as counterfeits by God Himself and by those He has chosen.

As I bow my knees each day and speak to the Father in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I know there is still the same authority in His name. All around the world, saints of God bow their knees to God and approach Him in the name of Jesus because we all know Christ as our Lord. A day is coming, we are sure, when the knees of everyone in God's universe will bow before the name of Jesus – the Judge is God the Son.
