SUMMARY. It was common for Christians to be slaves during the time when the book of Titus was written. Slavery was widespread in the Roman Empire, and the Apostle Paul neither supported nor condemned it. He advised Christians on how to conduct themselves as slaves, despite their status. Additionally, he provided guidance in other scriptures on how slave owners should treat their slaves. Some aspects of society and culture are beyond our control, but God has used people in the past to bring about change. This may still be true today, but it is not the main reason believers live godly lives. In every situation where God's people are, examples are needed in daily life that show the truth of God our Savior. Christian workers should not work slowly or reluctantly, which might suggest discontent with their employer or job. Instead, we should aim to please those we work for, even if we are not completely satisfied with our tasks. As a guiding principle, we should do our work "as unto the Lord." When I receive instructions from those I serve, I should not challenge, contradict, or oppose the work assigned to me. Attitude greatly influences how people respond to us, as well as our faith and worldview. It is wrong for me to undermine my boss's authority or refuse to follow his directives unless they are illegal or go against the word of God. "Purloining" refers to stealing property from the person I work for. I might feel entitled to take certain items because I believe I am not being fairly compensated. However, it is unjustifiable to take any equipment or materials for personal use. It is also inappropriate for me to waste his time by arriving late, leaving early, or taking excessively long breaks. Using his resources at his expense for my benefit is not acceptable as a servant. A trustworthy employee who never steals time or goods makes the doctrine of God our Savior more appealing to unbelievers. "Good fidelity" is a positive trait of a child of God in the workplace, indicating that they can be trusted to complete assigned tasks effectively. As a Christian, I am not required to lie or act dishonestly to please my employer. "Good fidelity" means that righteous work is performed faithfully, both to others and before God. This practice aims to make salvation and all it entails, as well as the Christian life, attractive and desirable. This mindset transforms labor from a tedious chore into a means of promoting the Gospel. We reject all that is ungodly, whether in ourselves or in our actions toward those around us. Instead, we take life seriously and strive to live righteous, upright lives as we await the return of our Lord.
