Colossians 3:2. "Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth."
AFFECTIONS. A lot of things seek to claim a place in my heart. Much more than mere emotion, I must concentrate on the part Of me that controls "self" and gives it direction,
And makes sure of what is right, and what needs correction. I must prioritize my activities and focus it above, Instead of concentrating on things that I do and have, To make me comfortable and contented here below, Because all that earth can give is a vain and empty show.
Eternal things to some people seem very ethereal. They can't conceive of or understand things not material. But when we are risen with Christ, there is a fundamental change. Unseen things become real and now our life we rearrange. Truth becomes important because it is embodied in Christ. Righteousness imputed to us came at the supreme price. Grace, we have received, and now grace we have to show. Faith is not just a buzz-word; now by "just" living, faith we know.
Peace seems to escape people and the nations of earth. Now peace I have and I know its results and its worth. Glory is above, even some of it on earth is revealed - In some scenes of splendor, or in the face of one God has healed. Life itself, though unseen has changed to have meaning. There is a purpose in it, not just days that are fleeting. Hope and love, and more importantly, God Himself - Is where our affections rest and our minds choose to dwell.
"Heavenly Father, I love Thee. My mind is at rest and is comforted when it is stayed on Thee. My hopes and joys are in Thee. Lift my thoughts and affections today to the heights where I can speak for Thee and You can use Thy servant to bring glory to Thee and blessing to others. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen."
