EXODUS 19:4-6. “Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you to Myself. Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto Me above all people: for all the earth is mine: and ye shall be unto Me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.” A KINGDOM OF PRIESTS. Who are these people in this marching band? Why are they crossing this hot desert sand? Where are they from, going on to what land; Cloud and fire guiding direct from God’s hand?
They’re walking in order, five in a row. The families together, yet a discipline shows That where they are going and Who they must know; Keeps them all in their place as onward they go.
To watch from afar, you would see way in the past; Along the sea shore on the sand, there is cast The bodies of enemies, four hundred years there did last A slavery; now gone as to a new home they will pass.
The burdens they carry and the songs that they sing, Indicates to observers, that all that they bring; They owe to the God, Who bears them on wings As an eagle her young: He wants them for Him.
They are a treasure indeed that He wants for Himself. They are a kingdom of priests, but each one of them felt The sting of the lash, and the pressure that fell Until freedom did give each a story to tell.
For all the great start, the truth really is, They failed so often to remember they were His. The One Who delivered and bare on His wings; Has set them aside for a new band of priests.
These are all over; you can’t see them as one. They’re in all cultures and nations, redeemed by God’s Son. Their marching and offering is not fully done; But with eyes on the skies, they’re moving towards home.
They are offering their praises and sacrifices too. As priests, all can offer to God what is true. Our hymns and thanksgivings and gifts all can show, We appreciate home, while living below.
We offer together, and sometimes alone As a kingdom of priests; not for sins to atone: But for blessing abundant, we all want to own, He alone is the Worthy One, Jesus, God’s Son.
And to Him we offer our sacrifices of praise, As together around Him our songs we all raise. We praise Him for mercy, His love and His grace; As priests we can do this all of our days.
This invisible group for 2000 years, His peculiar treasure, His name each one bears. This nation of people, yet for each one He cares; Will never forget that it is His life we share.
“Holy God: it is as one of the priests in Thy kingdom that I offer the sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. I offer deep gratitude for Thy mercy. I offer the things that I use in this body. I don’t want to keep anything back. Sometimes I am not sure if there are some things I am holding on to inappropriately. Here is my offering to Thee this morning, In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.”
