Listening & Learning — A Devotional

Genesis 10:32

THEIR GENERATIONS

GENESIS 10:32. “These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations: and by these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood.” THEIR GENERATIONS. A father hears from God – a warning is sounded from the Highest Possible Source; Trouble is coming – insurmountable by mortal mans’ choice and design. Listen – God explains and gives all the directions needed to save the family. Noah listens and heeds – his family is saved!

Three sons watching the turn of events that changed their father’s life and occupation. God’s grace made him a preacher and a carpenter, just like his Master would be. Learning, watching, participating, becoming skillful as the years pass – Three sons learn – they and their wives are saved!

The passing of years – the monument to God’s grace – the ark of safety is complete; God moves inside and calls to the listeners near enough to hear His voice; Father, mother, sons, wives – animals that function as God intended – All move inside – all are saved!

The danger is passed – children are born – families take shape again under new leadership. Seven sons to one – four to another – five to another as new generations arise. How will they train their children? Will they tell them of God’s grace? Will they become believers? Will the children be saved?

No longer warned of world-wide disaster but of little disasters – each day – at home. Now they have a chance to live and learn God and His ways together – new families. Willful children – the younger taking leadership – their children following the fathers. Not all the children are saved.

Their children – their families – their generations – their nations – divided; Going farther and farther apart, and farther and farther away from God. My children – their families – their generations – their nations: I wonder – will they be saved?

“O God of all the ages: I am looking ahead today but I cannot see the future of my family and their generations following them. So Father, I am again interceding for those who are young, and those yet to be born – may the fear of God be upon them; may they recognize the God of their fathers; may they be willing to look back over more than seven generations and see where they have come from; may they be wise in looking ahead and see where they are going; may we all dwell in the house of the Lord forever. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.”
