GENESIS 10 THEIR NATIONS As the years passed by and the families grew, I saw how they were dispersed to various parts of the Middle East and then beyond. It was of great interest to me to see how from Mount Ararat, it is possible to see to the north and south, the east and west. The three sons of Noah and their families went in those different directions fulfilling God's original intention again of multiplying the earth.
I could see and understand how each family, though from the same parentage, could quickly develop an identity far different than that of their siblings. There are different tastes individuals have that are passed on to their children. Some like different food. What they choose to eat is different from those who came from the same family. Before long, those tastes are part of the diet people choose to eat and it differs from those in other places. Traditions are formed and habits followed that in time to come becomes laws simply because everyone in that area does them. A culture takes form that adapts to the climate, food preferences, the animals and plants in the area and the habits of those in earlier generations. Even the weather affects how people live, and what they believe to be evidence of God.
I took notice that Shem and his descendants settled to the east and southeast of Ararat. This included the area where God planted the Garden of Eden and placed Adam and Eve in that garden to dress it and keep it. To me, it was a great encouragement, that though sin and failure brought down a whole civilization, God is not finished with man. He has made His plans and He will see them completed. He has a sovereign purpose, and He will see that it is done to His honor and glory.
And I have a part in it - even me!
Names are just names to most of us. We hear them but soon many of them we forget. The ones we remember are people we trust, Or those who owe us some back rent. But it is different with God, He knows every one. He is the very source of their life. For every single person, He sent His only Son - That each one would walk in His light.
Opportunity came after the great flood For mankind to make a new start. The atmosphere changed, and even the food But there wasn't a real change in men's hearts. Japheth went to the north; Ham went to the south Shem went to the east by southeast. Families and nations were scattered about As the population across the earth increased.
There are multiplied billions of people now on earth Forming nations that formed their origins back then. There hasn't been any change in what a person is worth, God is still concerned with the family of man. What are just names to me are much more to the Lord Each one is loved by God most dearly. When the Lord Jesus Came in the flesh to the world - It was that men would love Him sincerely.
"O Lord God, in Thy sovereign will there are great nations of people still living in the world because of Thy provision and care. May the truth of Thy Gospel go beyond the barriers made by men to reach seeking souls wherever they are found - And may we find some seeking souls here. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen."
